Alexis' 2007 Performance Appraisal

Goal: Learn to walk.
Performance: Alexis began to display mastery of the skill of walking at 13 months and has since proven that she is an experienced and proficient walker.
2008 Goal: Learn to run without waving arms wildly and wagging butt like a dog.

Goal: Grow tall enough to reach the phone.
Performance: Not only did Alexis grow tall enough to reach her phone, she grew tall enough to reach every door handle, anything left on the edge of the kitchen counter, and many items that were best left out of her grubby little hands.
2008 Goal: Stop growing up already.

Goal: Learn to prepare own food so as to avoid whatever food Mom is serving, even if you like you like what's for dinner.
Performance: Alexis has not yet mastered culinary preparation. She is able to acquire crackers and bananas without assistance, but needs to add other foods to her self-serve repertoire. Food found on the floor does not qualify in this category.
2008 Goal: Start making dinner for the whole family. We like macaroni and cheese.

Goal: Make birthday cake disappear, but don't actually eat any of it.
Performance: Goal achieved.
2008 Goal: Try consuming a bite or two of birthday cake.

Goal: Grow some hair.
Performance: Alexis is currently demonstrating her Pittsburgh pride by sporting a mullet, but there is more party in the back than before.
2008 Goal: Grow some hair on top of her head.

Goal: Meet Mickey Mouse.
Performance: While Alexis did make a trip to Walt Disney World, she was too busy posing for pictures by the front gates to spend any time with the Big Cheese.
2008 Goal: Try to convince parents to make a return trip to Walt Disney World for the purpose of meeting Mickey Mouse.

Goal: Resemble Mom just a tiny bit.
Performance: This is one of Alexis' weakest areas. She continues to look exactly like her Father and absolutely nothing like her mother. However, she is beginning to show indications that she may have inherited Mom's fine, scraggly, mouse-brown hair.
2008 Goal: Resemble Mom just a tiny bit (seriously, kid, people think I kidnapped you or something).

Goal: Try some new foods.
Performance: Alexis excels in this area. She will try anything once, but that is not to say that she won't spit something back out and hand it to Mommy if she doesn't like it.
2008 Goal: Try some new foods other than cat and stop handing half-chewed morsels to Mommy.

Goal: Lend a hand around the house.
Performance: Alexis has been successful in contributing to the overall efficiency of the house by throwing trash in the garbage upon request, watering the garden, testing the dog water for cleanliness, bathing the dog, sweeping the deck, and vacuuming.
2008 Goal: Add dusting and emptying the dishwasher to current list of chores.

Goal: Melt Mom's heart with just a glance.
Performance: Achieved every single day.
2008 Goal: Keep up the good work.

  1. That kid has some issues with water, does she not? Absolutely A-DOR-ABLE!! If you can get her up to par on the culinary scale I'll be super impressed with your parenting skeelz.

  2. Yeah, she has issues with water all right. If it's in a small container and she is supposed to stay out of it, she's in it. If it's a pool or ocean, she scared to death. We're talking complete flip-out every time.

  3. I love the year in review. What a great idea. She's such a ham for the camera. It was great seeing a picture of you. Yup, looks nothing like you. Maybe the same texture hair, but certainly not the color. My favorite picture is the one where she's sleeping on the beach towel. So sweet!

  4. If I were to stop playing with hair dye, my hair would be the same color as hers. Right now it's a little lighter than hers thanks to the magic of highlights, but I'm thinking of going dark again after looking at these photos. I hated it while it was dark, but now I think I like it.

  5. Your writing is so creative! I loved this post, and all the pictures. My favorite is the dog bowl picture, but she rocks that first outfit, too!

  6. Sorry, forgot to say I left you something on my blog.

  7. Oh my - she is all sorts of cute! So adorable. And if she masters culinary preparation do blog about it - I've been trying to teach my 16 month old son to prepare dinner to no avail. Dayum!

Okay, so is it bad that I had to do a double take with the picture of her and Jasmine in the bath tub? ... I seriously thought it was Tyler when I first saw the picture! :)

  9. This is PERFECT! What a cute idea!

Punkin was slow with the hair growing, too, but considering the fact that I didn't have any hair until I was two, she's doing alright! We keep trimming the back in hopes that one day the sides will catch up.

  10. Oh and I'm sorry, but she doesn't look anything like you. But Punkin doesn't look anything like me either. But people tell me Bubba looks like my twin, so maybe the next one will be yours?

  11. Not only does she have your hair, she's got your eyes, too. I can see you in her, despite the fact that she's all daddy's.

  12. Wow. Alexis makes me look bad for not accomplishing any of my 07 resolutions. It's sad when you're upstaged by a two year old...oh, wait. That happens every single day.

  13. I would gladly prepare every meal of every day for my boys....

.... if only one of them would manage to FEED THE DAMN DOGS every day....

*sigh* Can you guess what today's argument was about??

  14. that kid is too damn cute!!
I totally see you in her eyes and brow line.

    Water issues? LOL.

She's just too cute! This was a darling post!

What a cute baby and what a great post! Oh, and she definitely has your eyes -- you do know that, right?

  18. She didn't get my eyes, either. Mine are a freaky icey blue and hers are almost gray. Don't tell anyone, but I'm pretty sure they are Grandma's eyes. On the paternal side of the family, of course.

The good news is that she got my personality. I couldn't handle two of my husband.

  19. Your daughter is absolutely ADORABLE! And your right, she looks A LOT like her father, and not so much like you.

If it's any consolation my daughter looked nothing like me when she was born and is now a mini me. Maybe it will just take a year or two!

  20. Oh, I just loved this post. You have a beautiful little girl! Mine will be 15 months next week, which makes seeing what Alexis is doing so much fun.
We went to Disney this summer too and are considering another trip next summer too. It was so much fun!

  21. Oh what ADORABLE pictures.

    This struck me as funny:
Alexis has been successful in contributing to the overall efficiency of the house by throwing trash in the garbage upon request

Once my kids learned to throw things away, they started throwing away stuff I needed! For a very long time I wondered where all my spoons were disappearing to. Until I caught a kid finishing their yogurt, throwing away the cup AND the spoon! I just bought spoons at Goodwill till they were old enough to keep track (about 14).

She'll look more like you as she gets older. Lucky kid. :)

  22. SO CUTE!

My husband LOVES "the burgh". The best man at our wedding lives there. I have never been. We are hoping to make a trip this year!

  23. Let's see.... I've been a little lax, lately - I'm getting caught up, though!

I wound up at the Westmoreland Mall... Long story, and I have a feeling a little far for you to come a'stalking...

I also worked for UPMC - Presby, Montefiore, South Side, Braddock... pretty much all of them. And Shadyside, too.

I also broke my foot when the Monkey was 11 months old. Well, technically, I think I broke it about 5 months before I finally realized that it kind of hurt a LOT and I should probably have it x-rayed. I've concluded that kids are a major of cause broken feet.

AND - LOVE Alexis' fauxhawk!!! She does look like daddy. So does JT. I think it's nature's way of making sure that our husbands know that the kids belong them so they don't try to kill them and eat them.

I've been watching too much Discovery Channel lately. Damn this writers' strike...

  24. OMG, She so has your eyes!!! How can you say that child doesn't look like you?

Oh and EVERYONE told me that my oldest was the spitting image of her Dad until she hit about three. Now all I hear is that I cloned myself. You'll be amazed at how much she may change as she grows.

Either way she is VERY cute..

I like your to do list too.

  25. First, HYSTERICAL! I love this post. I wish I could do something similar, but I'm just not funny enough. LOVED reading you do it though, cause you are so very funny.

Second, she does look like her father. I think the eye shape looks like yours though. My daughter is the same way. The first time MY grandma saw her (at about 7 months) she said, "Spitting image of her father." I coudn't agree more, although she does have my eye shape. At least our men are cute!

  26. I have just stumbled on this blog and wanted to let you know that I am very offended by the photo of your child in the bath with a dog. How unsanitary. Ha, ha, ha! Just kidding! Totally laughed and laughed over this entry. So glad to have stumbled on to this from Rants and Raves. Thanks for making me smile, as you do so many.

  27. Reading this is like reading a page from my diary... almost. My kid will be one in a few days, and she has hardly any hair on top but quite a mass in the back and shee looks so much like her Dad I have to laugh! Very cute post!

    ReplyDelete
  28. That is too cute!!! I love all the pictures of the Little Princess!

    ReplyDelete
  29. First....I love your new blog look! You keep changing it up on us and I love that!

Second....this had me cracking up! What a fun way to list all the amazing things Alexis has learned to do. And the pictures...oh, the pictures. Just.too.cute!

  30. Don't get too used to the new header. I'm not totally happy so I'm going to give it another shot tonight.

  31. I think she totally has your eyes!

Great year in review...what a cutie!

  32. I have the same problem...my children look nothing like me. But at least Cooper likes me. Even this morning I got the "no, I want my DADDY!" from Gavin. *sigh* Although, unless it's just your husband's glasses distorting my comparison, she kind of looks like you around the eyes...

Love the performance review...wish I had the same goals in the one I have coming up...I might do better! :D

oh, and I love those first pictures in her kitchen where she's standing on the feet of her jammies...too cute!

  33. oh, and I mean shape of eyes, not necessarily color...

holy cow, that is a funny post. Bun turns one year old on Sunday. if I can get it together, can I please steal that idea? I haven't had a performance review in so long... heck, it'll just add to the challenge.

    ciao,
