Yes, I Would Like Some Cheese with My Whine

Did this weekend seem weirdly short to anyone else? Oh wait, it was. I know it's been whined about endlessly by just about everyone today, but can I just pile on the I Hate Daylight Saving Time Bandwagon? Because really, I hate it. Let me count the ways:

1. Just like kids all across North America, Alexis was very uninterested in me telling her what time it was last night. Her little body said it was too early to go to bed so her little mouth told me NO NO NO every time I said it was bedtime. I have to admit, I absolutely agreed with her.

2. It's impossible to convince my stomach that it's time to eat at 11:00 am. Impossible.

3. I really don't care whether it's light out when I leave in the morning. Early o'clock in the morning is still early o'clock, it doesn't matter where Mr. Sun is shining or not.

4. We don't just lose one hour with the whole DST thing, we lose TWO. Maybe you're more efficient than me, but I know it takes me a full hour to trounce around the house and change all the clocks. Well, OK, technically it takes Mr. Husband an hour to trounce around the house and change all the clocks, but it takes me an hour to supervise his progress. I can't handle when two clocks in the same room don't agree, so I have to make sure he does a good job.

5. Until I figure out a way to teach a dog to read a clock, I'm going to have to deal with two annoying mongrels trying to go out on their regular schedule.

6. There are timers on the fish tank lights and changing them requires a feat of balance and skill that I do not possess when I have been deprived of an hour of sleep. That means the tanks are still dark when we leave in the morning and I just plain don't feed the fish.

7. I can guarantee that I will forget to change the time on my watch for at least two weeks. Once per day, I'll glance at it and freak out that the day is going by WAY too slow, but it won't dawn on me that my watch might be wrong. It always takes some major event before I put two plus two together and realize I'm a dork. Every year.

8. Who had the bright idea to do this whole Daylight Saving Time thing on a weekend anyway? Shouldn't it be on a Monday or Tuesday? If ever there was a day that deserves shortening, it's Monday, not a day on the weekend. Period.

9. It's very hard for a toddler to put on her coat and get out the door for school in the morning when she falls asleep on the couch:

Poor little angel. She fell back to sleep? We just drugged mine. And, I'm totally okay with that.

  2. That picture is too cute!

See? That is another bonus to living in Arizona... no DST!!

    *sigh*

I have to find the positives where I can. Because come May, its going to be too damn hot here to see much beyond the heat waves.

  3. OMG- that picture is just beyond words! Too friggin' cute! I hate DST- whoever invented it should be sentences to sleep in bed with stinky dog butts and a toddler helmet for eternity!

Amen, sistah! I hate the time change! Why can't it just be left alone.

Poor little one!! That's kind of what I looked like this morning.

  5. Go ahead and hate me, but I love me some DST. The kids finally get up at a decent hour and it's light later in the evening so I can kick them outdoors to play.

  6. Several Thoughts:

    1. Sumo Baby actually CAN bend at the wrist - an act which defies biology and physics and is very impressive to behold.

    2. My kid refuses REFUSES to go to bed at the new time. His "usual" bedtime is 8:30, but tonight I barely managed to get him to be sort of asleep at 9:15 "new time." It's such a pain in my arse.

    3. That picture of your passed out daughter is hilarious. I think I probably look like that right about now.

  7. I effing hate DST. Whoever decided we should keep doing it can bite me! It is so hard to get mine in bed when it's daylight and up when it's still dark.

  8. i sure hope tuesday turns out better for you than today! yes the whole time change is a pain in the rump. i wish it could just stay this way, as i really do love the long days!

  9. Poor thing! Oh GUURRRL, I'm feeling in the DLS pain too. It's nearly 11pm here and my 2 yr old monster is STILL. AWAKE!!!

  10. First off that picture is adorable. Secondly, I agree lets do DST on a Monday...whoohoo!!

I actually like DST. I am completely depressed when 6pm is pitch black.

  12. We're having a tough time with DST, too. Just when I was getting EB's bedtime down pat. *sigh*

Seriously cracking up over the gel cling post below! So stinkin' cute!

    I wanna smoosh her cheeks!

My vehicle clock is always the last to change.... weeks, perhaps months down the line!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Can I please come and kiss her cheeks? I feel that I have too.

I actually like daylight savings time, but I don't want to upset you by getting too detailed about it.

  15. Stupid DST. I hate it with the fire of a thousand suns. I always forget to change some clock somewhere and it screws with my head for a good two weeks.

    Bah.

    Stupid DST.

  16. THAT doesn't look very comfortable! She must have been exhausted!

My kids have been surprisingly agreeable about going to bed at the same hour, even though technically it's an hour early. And I didn't have any problem going to bed at 9:00 on Sunday even though my body thought it was 8:00!

  17. Your kiddo is just too cute!! And I bet your fish could stand to lose a few ounces so NOT feeding them probably isnt a bad thing! (did that help your guilt?)

  18. I was a pre-k assistant yesterday and the four year olds all came in crying and grouchy. I came in crying and grouchy. HATE the time change.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yeah, time change is the worst. And there have been many studies showing it actually COSTS us more money! Not to mention the added misery for us parents.

    And that photo? Priceless!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Well, as much as I hate to be controversial (Ha, right), I love DST! More daylight in the evenings makes me very, very happy. Love that picture, and that outfit, but geez, how much did you pay for that thing?!

That shot of Alexis is great!! "I'll just stretch out and catch a few more z's before we leave."

Knock on wood, the time change does not, and has never, bothered Morgan. Wait. That's wrong. In 2007 it did...when we put the clocks back, the first morning she was up earlier. Other than that, doesn't phase her. Now that it's light out longer, the evening seems to be going by faster and by 8pm, I'm all "CRAAAP!! It's time for jammies and books and bed and we haven't had a snack or a drink or anything yet."

I think DST is a crock o' poop and we shouldn't do it anymore. When I'm President, that'll be the first thing that I push through.

    :)

First off...two clocks in the same room? A little redundant maybe? :-)

Love the photo at the bottom. So stinkin' cute.

And I agree...Monday or Tuesday would be a great day for daylight savings. It really would.

That picture just says it all! I feel the same way in the morning! I HATE DST!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I agree. DST sucks. I like it being lighter at the end of the day but Damn it messes me up bad!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I don't really have much of a problem with daylight savings time, except with, like you stated, changing all the clocks. That takes me about a week. I did enjoy a nice walk last night while it was still light out last night. That was one good thing about it.

You are so right about DST and the kids. Yesterday morning, daughter came out of her room and asked me why I was awake. I told her it was morning and she said, "No its not, its still dark!"

And bedtime last night was a real treat! No one wanted to go to bed until they were falling down tired!

  27. Amen!! Getting the toddlers up in the dark has caused tears and fights the past two mornings, and then tears and fights again at bedtime...

  29. It's Tuesday and my tail is still dragging! I think it takes us a good week for everything to shift back to normal feeling again. Poor little Alexis, she looked very comfy there on the couch!

  30. Very funny! Although I have to say that we were all quite exhausted last night. Maybe it was because of the hour we lost the night before. I don't know, but they were all in bed with no grumbling. I don't, however, expect a repeat this evening!

  31. I haven't gotten my alarm clock set right, yet. Thank goodness my husband's alarm goes off after mine. I have this clock that's supposed to reset for DLS but it doesn't so I have to manually do it. I'm sooo tired.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh, that explains why we've been having lunch so early. I totally forgot about having changed the clocks

    ReplyDelete
  33. Anonymous1:03 PM

I usually adjust them slowly, 15 minutes at a time, in the week before. But, with the 8 hour time difference we will face next week? Who knows!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Anonymous1:35 PM

poor Alexis... Freddy is still not used to it...
I think we need to invent a petition of some kind and get a bunch of signatures on it to ban the stupid DST!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I agree with everything you just said...!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Two days later I'm still cursing that damn DST. It's just not right! And I'm still getting around to changing my watches and the clocks on assorted appliances.

    ReplyDelete
  37. OMG I'm gonna get that belly!

    ReplyDelete
  38. oh, and I don't mind DST. I miss the light at the end of the day. My kids didn't even notice...but I got to hear Justin moaning about it. At least he's got an excuse...he grew up in Indiana where they just decided about a year ago to change time with the rest of the country (well, except AZ). As for getting up in the a.m.? I have a lamp on a timer in my room so that it turns on a few minutes after my alarm clock so that my body thinks "light! time to get up!"

    I didn't say it worked.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yeah, I hear ya. Everything has seemed so off. I'm so desperate to get J on a schedule, I mean any dang schedule will do, just something I can sorta kinda maybe rely on.

Even an hour, one hour can mess all that up . . .

I'm with her. Last night I accidentally stayed up until 11pm because I just didn't realize how late it was. I needed that hour of sleep, dang it!

  41. I say we all get a grass roots movement going and boycott DST next year. Join Arizona!!!
