Having the Two of My Life

THIS is it.

Right now.

This IS it.

Two. Two is the age that I would want to redo if I could. Two is the perfect age to be alive.

The most upsetting thing that can happen when you're two is to be told "no" when you want to watch Dora the Annoying Explorer.

When you're two, it's gloriously fun to yell, "YELLOW CAR!" each and every time you spot a little ray of sunshine on wheels.

A peanut butter and jelly sandwich is a perfectly acceptable, and preferred, lunch for someone who is two.

When you're two, a hug is just a hug, and you can give anyone an instant jolt of happiness by giving them one.

A productive evening for a two-year old is when you get to play with Play-Doh AND read six books.

If you're two, it's cute when you pronounce "big truck" with a "f" where the "tr" should be.

You can pee your pants when you're two, and no one thinks anything of it.

Singing your ABC's perfectly from beginning to end is just cause for a party when you're two.

Two is a spectacularly fun age to be alive.

But since I can't go back and be two again, I'm going to blow bubbles for someone who is, and I'm going to blow those bubbles as if it's my job. Which it is.

32 isn't all that bad either.

  1. There is something magical about two-year olds. When they're not morphed into spawns of the devil, that is.

And watching a kid play with bubbles is one of my favorite things - such joy from something so simple. We could all learn a bit about that.

Those pics look like they were taken on The Farm. Oh, I miss it.

And yes, being two would be nice.

  3. When life was easy, oh so easy...I went on a walk around the lake with my friends and Ethan last Sunday...at one point, he seemed to be getting a little irritated about being strapped in the stroller. We were all like "Ethan, in 20 years you would kill to kick back and have someone else do all the work while you went around the lake on a beautiful day"...if only we knew how good it was when we were 2! I would totally want to do it again too!!

  4. Such a nice post! And great pictures!!

BTW, I love your mop dog, she is so pretty. That camera really took a nice shot. I may have to get myself one of them. (The camera, not the dog. I have 2 annoying cats)

  5. The 5th one (counting up from the bottom) looks like she is commanding the bubbles. "Do my bidding!".

You know she's incredibly gorgeous, right? Rhetorical.

  6. Oh, you had one of those good days and you're all rubbing it in and shit. Pshaw.

    Fantastic pictures. Truly.

  7. Oh to be two again! That last picture looks like her head is in the bubble...lol!

I love that last shot. Mr. Canon is such a badass. And, isn't two grand? Just wait until three my pretty. Just wait...

  9. Peanut butter and jelly is also a perfectly acceptable lunch when you're 42.

  10. That looks like you had a great time. Bubbles rule. Mr. Canon rules. So does PB&J, especially with my homemade blackberry jam. :) Hopefully one day we can all hang out with bubbles, our Mr. Canons, and PB&J.

  11. I might be biased because I have a 3 year old, but I think toddlers ROCK!

You paint a good picture of the joys of being 2 with your words and a fabulous one in the pictures. Being 2 is about personifying joy. Bubbles are the trigger but being 2 provides the fuel for the giggles, wonder and joy.

  13. Maybe the best part about having a two year old is the way they teach you to rediscover life.

    And Alexis is unusually photogenic.

I get so sick of hearing about the "terrible twos." Yes, two is exhausting. But it is also exhilirating!

BTW, I'm really confused by the header. Is that a hand going into your shirt?

  15. We're coming to play at your house. :-)

  16. you deserve the "super mom of the day", gold star for that post. She'll so love you extra for that when she's all grown up *sigh*
The pics are gorgeous, as always.
I wish I could go back for a day and squeeze my babies at her age. thank for sharing it.

  17. Oh my goodness, i LOVE LOVE LOVE her expressions!
Great post, my friend! you rock!

  18. ah to be 2 again.

on the other hand, that means we would have to do all that adolescent angst again.

    no, thanks ;-)

  19. Oh I wish mine were young enough for bubbles again. *sigh*

Instead, my little Bug and I played checkers tonight. Which left me feeling pretty good, having beat the pants off him.

That feeling lasted until he beat his brother at chess.

I think he let me win. Can I have the bubbles back, please?

  20. I've never thought of it before, but two does seem to have it's benefits. I'm especially jealous of that peeing your pants thing. Drat those kids for giving me a weak bladder.

How can you get such great pictures while blowing bubbles? Look at the popped one dissipating before my very eyes.

  21. I like this post :)
I agree with it all and tell my husband on a weekley basis that I wish I was a toddler!

Her expressions are priceless in these pictures :)

  24. Such beautiful pictures!

My 10 year old is channel flipping and you would have thought her eyes were burning when Dora came on.

    Sometimes I miss 2.

  25. Mr. Canon really is awesome, huh? I just wish he fit in the diaper bag. Love the one that looks like her head is in the bubble! Whoever created bubbles was a genius.

  30. I never could understand why it was called the terrible two's.

    It's a beautiful age.

    Now, 13 on the other hand . . .

    Two is great!
But then I wish they could morph to 5!
And 32 is not bad either....at least from over here.

Isn't it great when bubbles can occupy them for hours. Get the bubble machine...it's much easier...plus it keeps your hands free to drink some cocktails!

    ReplyDelete
  32. 2 is grand indeed....
those bubble pics are beyond cute! oh.... let's go back in time shall we?

Holy crap, my uterus just skipped a beat. Best bubble pictures EVER!

If I give you a chocolate covered macadamia, will you and Mr. Canon come down to Texas and take pictures of Little Man? Ok, two chocolate covered macadamia. And Satan's Dog will eat your underwear at no cost.

  43. Oh to be two again.

I still think PB&J is a perfectly acceptable lunch or dinner for that matter. :P

I hear ya on the reliving the childhood stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Too cute!

I'm glad to hear that two is so wicked, cause there have been some moments leading up to two that have been less so...

    ReplyDelete
  60. The only problem with being two is having to do all the years between two and now all over again...Love the bubbles!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I have camera envy. Seriously, yours rocks. Mine sucks hard.
