Yesterday's Tough Girl is Today's Super Wimp

This morning Alexis was shoveling her morning waffles and strawberries (the breakfast of champions) when suddenly she blurted out, "Mommy, I urt finwer!" I examined the pudgy little finger and found no signs of anything that could hurt, just a tiny little fleck of strawberry. But, Alexis insisted that she was injured, "Wan medicine, please" was followed by, "Owie!" Each little plea was progressively whinier, so I thought maybe I had missed something. I looked again, only to have the Toddler shove her not-at-all wounded finger into my face. "Kiss owie." It seemed easier to pucker up than to argue (story of my life, right there), so I kissed the finger. "Need kitty ban-aid," the Toddler reported before throwing in a good solid whimper. (We are currently using Hello Kitty Band-Aids because I have had enough of the Dorafication of this house. *stomps foot*)

At that point, I was starting to get annoyed at that little blood-colored fleck of strawberry, so I reached down to wipe it off. In my moment of not at all remembering how the mind of a 2-year old works, I thought she would think I was Magical! Mystical! Mommy! who could make boo-boos heal with just a light touch of her finger!

Oops.

"MOMMY! OWIE! OH, NO! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

Real tears.

Obviously, I missed the FDA's warning that strawberries may cause drama.

  1. At least they're not laced with salmonella. Yet.

  2. heh!

Gavin had a scratch for like four days, yet on that fourth day was when he decided it hurt enough for a bandaid. Considering he's only willingly allowed bandaids on his body in the past 2 months, I don't mind putting bandaids on old cuts and spots made by markers...yet.

  5. Aww, what a perfect pic to match that post :)

    How about Strawberry shortcake band-aids?

  6. I have a budget just for Bandaids now. It's amazing how many "owies" we have around here.

  7. I thought there was some magical bandage, potion, spell, or something you could use!

"It seemed easier to pucker up than to argue." Hmmm...so many ways to go with this one.

  8. I JUST caugh Gracie putting band aids on a few of her toys.

    "But Mawwwwwm! They have OWIES!"

And she wonders why, when she needs one, we never have those plastic wonders handy!!!

  9. Bandaids are the fix all in this house. I routinely keep a box or two on hand just because it is easier to slap one on and go on with life then to constantly be dealing with the alternative.

My mom only gave out bandaids if there was blood, usually enough blood that it dripped on the floor. She was a cold water on a cloth mother. I find that I follow this, especially since Reid is such a messy girl that the bandaids get lost in the grime. We have a Thomas the Tank Engine cold pack that deals with the bumps but an ordinary cloth or paper towel takes care of the blood and then the air helps the owie to heal. My husband uses more bandaids than Reid because his mom let him have them more as a kid, I guess.

  12. You know, three months ago Punkin was TERRIFIED of bandaids. Now we must have one for every real AND imagined boo boo.

  14. Damn dirty strawberries . . . . they rank way up there with hippies as one of society's worst evils.

  15. I probably shouldn't have gotten the Spiderman bandaids. The boys have owwies all the time now.

    Such a cute pic!

  16. Dylan won't leave bandaids on - at least we save money on them!

  19. We actually buy generic band aids at Costco.... cause they cure all around here!

Cute picture of the little drama queen!

Ah, the drama! Not long ago, daughter told me she hurt her toe. I didn't see anything but it quickly spiraled to the point where she couldn't walk. She would try, limp, and then ask to be carried. Still, nothing on the toe.
THEN, she wanted to call everyone we know and tell them how she hurt her toe and couldn't walk!
Finally, I just ignored it and we went to bed.
The next morning, she jumped out of bed and said her foot was all better.
Yup....not too bad for a "phantom" ouchy!

    The drama....every little girl's dream!

  22. Ah, she has the dreaded Clickety Clack. It's an invisible injury to a digit...that only causes pain during meals, picking up toys, doing anything the injured body does not want to do, and bedtime.

We used about a bazillion bandaids to heal Clickety Clacks.

  24. Strawberry Drama... I know this well... Well, Drama, period.
Ahhh, the raising of girls... Every mother could be a Broadway critic post the raising of their daughters.

  25. But no complaints about her ears still, right? She does not how to milk the appropriate health issue... yet...

  27. I remember when ketchup was blood. I went through enough band-aids in that 2 month period that I never want to see another one.

But strawberries are good. I never knew they caused so much drama.

    Alexis is soo cute.
and i love your new look.

A couple of months ago, I had to put a Thomas the Train band aid on a booboo that was actually a spot of dried hot sauce.

When the bandaid fell off overnight, removing the dried hot sauce with it, Little Man was stunned and kept asking where his booboo went.

I swear us Mamas should just buy stock in bandaid and get rich.

Note to self: Buy stock in bandaids! :) Oh...and get some Hello Kitty ones for Davis' booboo!

  31. Um... and the point is? 'Cause that's how all of our meals roll. Drama and band-aids. Yup.

  32. Ha! Poor baby.

I cut my hand today. I wish it was as simple as strawberry jelly!

  33. I have it on good authority that a urt finwer on a toddler is cause for MUCH drama that is cured only by kitty bandaids and sitting in a huge lawn chair on a brightly striped towel, scowling into the sun. Those are the only things that make it better! Dank you.

  34. That's a great story! I have one boy who is undersensitive to pain and another who makes up ailments such as "I can't walk any farther my legs are broken". "My arms are too tired to feed myself." Those are easily cured by my tactfully used word of wisdom: "Shake if off our you're going to bed!"

  35. You're lucky you got off with a bandaid. Imagine what life will be like when she's old enough to start bartering for what will make her feel better!

  36. We're currently going through Strawberry Shortcake band-aids like they were water.

  37. the princesses have a delightful assortment of band-aids AND tattoos! those suckers NEVER come off so one is really all you'll need.

of course, you won't get a deal like that from Dora, so maybe you should switch to blueberries for awhile.
after all, boots likes his ball. his ball is bouncy. his ball is blue.

  38. When both my boys were younger, we had to keep a box of bandaids in EVERY room of the house. Because EVERY owie was entirely too life threatening to take the time to go to the bathroom for one.

Now? Both boys use those suckers like duct tape... holding the strangest things together in MacGuyver-like fashion.

  39. bless your little hearts! You're officially in Mommy "U", huh?

  40. Something that might have helped (I'm nothing if not helpful after the fact. You're welcome). My grandpa taught us that your own saliva is very effective in cleaning a tiny wound. Having her suck on her finger would have eliminated the jam and the owie. :)
