They Suck So Good

While the in-laws were in town, something veeeery strange happened: we went to a baseball game. I know! Can you believe it? I loathe watching baseball, and I loathe the Pirates, but yet, we went. The things I do for family . . .

It turned out that it wasn't entirely a waste of an evening. The weather was fantastic, the people-watching was stellar, and did I mention the all-you-can-eat thing? No? ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT concessions! Yeah. We bought the tickets that came with the extra special privilege of eating however many hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos, peanuts, ice cream sandwiches, popcorn, and salads you could shove down your throat. Mr. Husband took that as a challenge and downed more food than a human should be able to consume in a week, let alone a few hours. I, however, FAILED. I actually lost a pound that day. You can stamp FAILURE on my forehead, but in my defense, I did make a hella lot trips to the concession stand. All that walking back and forth in an attempt to satisfy the whims of a Toddler (and to stock up on 80 bags of peanuts) really must have burnt some calories. She ate nachos and popcorn then decided that peanuts in the shell were a special gift from the heavens and ate nearly two bags of them.

Oh yeah, the game.

The game.

So, we went and watched the suckiest team in baseball (16 years, yo). As luck would have it, they were playing the Astros, or as Anglophile Football Fanatic has informed me they should be called, the Disastros.

Heh. I thought the Buccos of Sucktitude (trademark Pittgirl) sucked, I had no idea there was a team that sucks more. This year anyway. So, here's how the game went:

You know what doesn't suck? The view of downtown from PNC Park. I'd say between the view and my peanut haul, it was a worthwhile night.

  1. At least you got a win! I was there with the Scouts a few weeks ago and was glad I didn't watch more than two plays. And the hassles that being there brought on... ugh. I'm still not looking forward to that part of things.

  2. Even your suckiest succos make good entertainment thanks to your mad skillz.

    You suck.

  3. In a good way, of course.

  4. In the interest of full disclosure, the only reason I know they won was because I took a photo of the scoreboard. I don't think I saw more than two or three plays the entire game.

Those are FANTASTIC pictures! And mad props to you for catching the 'adjustment'! T minus 6 days until the in-laws arrive.

  7. Thanks for giving my men in red their correct name. And, I still say baseball is the 2nd best sport.

  8. Those are some AWESOME photos of the city. Wow.

We were invited to a Bucs game on Sunday with special kids things going on. Wouldn't you know it's the day the kids go to camp? I'm bummed. It was for kids with special needs and would have been so much fun.

  9. I'm laughing to hard at all the suckage to really make a worthwhile comment.

    But I'll comment anyway.

People who comment with nothing to say. Ugh. I irritate myself.

  10. So, you love baseball, huh? Sounds like how I would feel if I had to go to a Nascar race.

Came over here from Kellie's blog. Spotted a little red bump on your beautiful little girls head in a baby pic. Aha! A hemangioma. My little girl had her two removed in March. They were both on her torso. One quite large and bulky.

Anywho...just thought I would say HI!

  12. Read this while watching the Buccos go up 9-3 on the Astros, with Freddie Sanchez hitting an inside the park home run. Of course, that's the number of runs they managed in four games against the Rockies.

They really do take suck to new levels, even on the rare occasions when they win.

  13. i am glad to know you have your priorities in the right place!

  14. That is one sweet view! Love the gagging toddler shot!

  15. Great photo story! And I love the evening city shots!

  16. Absolutely love the evening shots - won't comment on the game ones on the principle that it's sport, and I just don't go there!

  17. You missed your opportunity to label one of the players with the name Sucky McSuckerson.

    I'm disappointed...

  18. Yeah - I don't go often, but when I do - it's purely for the park and the junk food.

    'Gag me with the suck'

    Girl, that is my favourite.

The rest I totally don't understand, but I get that they suck.

  20. Okay, GENIUS!! Love the pic and your editing. The picks of Pitts at night are beautiful. I think I have to rethink the way I think about that city ;)

  21. That was a lot of suckage, for sure! At least they have WON a championship or two since the Cubs last did it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. I too, am not a fan of baseball. Maybe I just need to look for more suckage at the next ballgame I go to ... more fun, from the looks of it.
All you can eat concessions have my name all over them.
Beautiful shots of the city, BTW, just gorgeous.

The game may of had some major suckage in it but the pics definitely didn't suck, Nice Camera!

  24. I grew up in a house where baseball was a religion ... My dad was a little league coach for years. When I had my son my dad told me he couldnt wait to teach him to catch then get him on the baseball field. I agree baseball is boring I can say that now. Your commentary was great and that view was spectacular!

  25. Love the Poop fireworks!

Whatever those all you can eat tickets cost, it had to have been worth it. Concession food is EXPENSIVE. And of course the kids want one of everything.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thanks! Now I don't have to actually GO to a game this year! Watching them on TV is waaay more painful (no concession food, 'n 'at). And by the way, the blurry pic? I totally know who he is...and I haven't been there in years!

I'll watch suckage for some hot roasted nuts, oh yes I will...

Uhm... Why is it everything I say these days sounds dirty?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Were the 2 bags of peanuts consumed before the recent bout of diarrhea? I'm just saying...

    ReplyDelete
  29. Too funny! And your camera is making me hot!!!

YOUR PICTURES OF THE CITY ARE AMAZING. ATLEAST YOU KNOW SHE IS NOT ALLERGIC TO NUTS.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh. My. G-d! THAT was hysterical!! :)

  32. Awesome photos and hilarious commentary.

    At least they won...for once.

At least you don't have to watch the Cubs all the time with the hope they may be as good as they were last year but knowing they probably won't be while you (the wife) really could care less!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am SO not a baseball fan. Give me football ANYDAY!
But the nachos and peanuts would have made me happy.

    ReplyDelete
  34. All you can eat ballpark food? So worth it. Did you bring a big purse? You know...for the peanuts? :)

    Love those views!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Awesome pics...especially the city skyline. Did Justin already harass you to get your ISO and other blobbity-blob-blob photo-talk stats on those?

thoroughly enjoyed the suckiness that is the Succos...second only to the suckiness of the Cubs...thank GOD I'm a vague White Sox fan (don't care much for baseball, but I'd be disowned if I said any team other than them).

And how did all those peanuts come out? (keep seeing the scene in "Joe Dirt" with the Space Peanut)

    ReplyDelete
  36. That was some fairly hilarious commentary.

    ReplyDelete
  37. You had me on the floor at "GAG ME..."

Oh dear God you need to let us know the laugh factor in the beginning of your post.

    ReplyDelete
  38. AWESOME usage of the word "suck"! I now have absolutely no doubts whether or not there is actual suckage going on in Pittsburgh.
    hahaha!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Those photo shopped pictures were hilarious!

It's un-American not to like baseball. Shame!

I'm guessing the all-you-can-eat, didn't include Beer? Because if it did? Oh boy, you would have LOVED baseball.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The view alone was worth it. When I worked in Pitt, I was always in love with all those fantastic views (and restaurants on the river).

    ReplyDelete
  42. That picture where Alexis has her finger in her mouth and your caption to go along with is Price.less.

Thanks for making me laugh. Congrats on having the less sucky team of the day and those awesome city pics.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Love the suck dust!!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Your commentary is HILARIOUS. If I was with you watching through your lens I might enjoy watching baseball.

To quote Homer and Jon (who is sort of Homer in the flesh to be honest):

They are the suckiest buncha sucks that ever sucked.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Wow. They won. Impressive.

I like going to 1 baseball game a year because you can't beat the hotdogs. Except at PNC park where they suck as much as the Pirates do because they insist on only providing the stupid Heinz mustard. You need the brown stadium mustard people! And you can't eat wings at a baseball game - too messy and hot! Everyone with their Q,S&L wings and Primanti sandwiches - both are fine outside of a ball park (and in the case of Primantis, I miss dearly living in the south) but have no business at a baseball game. Okay, done with my rant.
