Sometimes it's Just Like Talking to Mr. Husband

For various reasons, Meg (the Bulldog) did not make the trip to Indiana with us. So this morning Alexis and I drove her out to our friends Mark and Estee's house for a couple of days of total and complete spoiling. Along the way we stopped to pay the turnpike toll. The woman in the booth astutely recognized that there were two pups in the vehicle, and handed out a couple of dog treats for them. Apparently the turnpike commission has managed to acquire the absolute only substance on Earth that Meg will not eat. She sniffed the treat in my hand then turned her nose up at it, so I handed it back to Alexis to see if Cody (the Havanese) would take it. (Cody did come to Indy with us; Yes, we totally play favorites and it's based on who is and is not housebroken.)

Alexis held the treat for a moment, tried to give it to Cody, and was also denied.

She said, "Mama, what's this?"

"A dog treat," I replied.

"No, it's an Alexis treat," she retorted.

"Alexis, don't put that in your mouth," I said.

"It's like cereal," the Toddler informed me.

"Alexis, don't put that in your mouth," I sternly repeated.

In classic Mr. Husband style, she retorted, "You don't mess with the Zohan."

When you're married to someone who can have entire conversations using only movie quotes, that retort actually makes sense. Sort of.

  1. That is funny! Too funny! She is way beyond being just a two year old she is too smart! Well I guess tasting a dog treat is two year old-ish but not the conversations!

Hope you have fun in Indiana! Happy New Year!

  2. I've known a couple of grown men, who couldn't resist trying out dog treats.Alexis is too cute, brilliant for her age! Paul, tends to quote lyrics all the time. He's a muscian filled with a lot of useless information...(Hugs) Indigo

  3. While I don't hold entire conversations in movie quotes, I bust them out from time to time. Mrs. Woy meets those with mixed emotion.

Mr. Husband should be in trouble for "teaching" that to her. She definitely gets points for using it correctly, though.

    ciao,

  9. Aw, poor Meg! I completely understand, though. I put Bodhi in the doggie kennel the last time we took a trip. He was simply too wild for polite company!

    Peace - D

  11. Ha ha! The dog biscuits are probably more nutritious than most cereals anyhow.

  12. To answer the question of the day, no Alexis did not eat the dog treats. They are still sitting in the car, where I'm sure they will stay until a nuclear holocaust wipes them off the face of the Earth.

  13. My husband does that all the time. I, having absolutely no movie memory, have no clue what he is saying half of the time.

  15. It's not surprising that the PTC has the worst treats ever. But I'm bummed that I've never been offered a treat. I have dogs with me on the pike more often than not. I feel so slighted.
