Monster. Created.

I was all set to thank Clumberkim for reminding me about no-sew tutus. I had made them before way back in college (you can ask why exactly a Spanish Translation major made several multi-colored adult-sized tutus, but I won't answer you), and knew just how easy they are. I had more than half the materials already on hand because I had intended to make one for Alexis easily a year ago.

Now I'm thinking procrastination was a good idea.

The girl spent the ENTIRE day wearing the ridiculous thing. She chased Mr. Husband out in the street with it on.

She tortured the dogs. A lot. While wearing the tutu.

She . . . um . . . "helped" with some yard work while dressed like a deranged swan from Swan Lake. (By "helped" I mean she pushed the wheelbarrow everywhere it did NOT need to be. Including into a car. Or two.)

Alexis went for a bike ride wearing the silly tutu, and then fell asleep in true Sleeping Beauty fashion.

The tutu and its obsessed wearer went for a ride on a horse.

Alexis scrubbed a week's worth of spilled food and drink from her table. While wearing the tutu.

She even managed to hang out on the deck blowing bubbles. While wearing the tutu.

So, uh, how exactly do I pry the thing off her?

  1. @rebelliousflaw--You only say that because you are not currently fighting her to NOT sleep in the thing. Good grief.

Too cute! I love how she has gardening gloves on while pushing the wheel barrow! :)

  6. Hello,

Just a quick note from your friendly stalker. I used to live in the Burgh and miss it terribly. I spend a bit too much time looking at your pictures and trying to figure out just where you live. You will be pleased to know that I haven't completely narrowed it down as of yet.

    cheers!

  7. I love the picture of her on the horse with her hair blowing in the wind. Tutu wearing is a respectable phase. We went through a phase of wearing my high heels all the time. I have a boy. My husband was so thrilled.

  8. Oh I love it!!!! I may have to try this...although I am thinking I will have the same problem you have (x2) as my kiddos will also NEVER want to take it off.

    SOOO cute!!!!!

  9. @Krista--That DOES make me happy! There are too many clues in this post for my usual level of comfort, so that's most excellent!

And thanks for coming out of hiding!

  10. How do you get the tutu so fluffy??

  11. I have had the materials and the plans for a full-on sewed tutu complete with trim and embellishments, but I keep putting it off. I think I am going to do this instead.

  12. uh. soooooo.... I kinda hope my sister has a boy right now, because she certainly doesn't seem to have the time to write a blog (though she DOES read mine now, daily {yay}) and I won't be there to post the ridic things that go on involving tutus... and yard work.... and dogs. and cats.... oh, god, move me to Florida. please. lol.

  13. Another of those kinda glad I don't have girls/so glad I don't have girls occasions.

And totally picturing you wearing a tutu around college much like your daughter is. Since you wouldn't answer the question, my mind had to go there.

  14. How funny! She's such a cutie! The pictures are great.

  15. Well, you know my favorite is the one with her, Meg, and Cody. LOVE IT!

I think this kid leads a charmed life. She has everything she wants, including Disney and tutus. This record of her life will prove, when she's a teenager, that you weren't the worst mother in the world and you didn't, in fact, torture her endlessly.

    Peace - D

  16. @Suzee--I cut the pieces WAY wider than the instructions say. They are probably closer to 18 inches wide and there is a total of 10 yards of the stuff on that tiny little (ridiculously foofy, but that's the way she wanted it) tutu.

  19. You had to go and provide the link, didn't you? Crap...now I'm going to have a 2.5 yr old prancing around in a freaking tutu.

  20. Well, she has to take a bath sometime, right??

However, she is so freaking cute in that thing, I would let her wear it. My boys went through a Power Ranger phase, Batman, AND I'm pretty sure Mater wore a Spiderman costume to the grocery store once...

  21. @Michelle Smiles--You know very well if I had NOT provided a link, you would have been asking for it. *Ahem*

  24. Aw, how cute!

Now - the real question. Once you get it off her, is it machine washable? ;-)

  25. If I had a tutu that fluffy and cute? You won't be able to pry it off me either!

It's really a work of art, and Alexis is princess-like in it!

  26. I tried the tutu thing once. We managed to keep it on the kid for a half an hour on Halloween. Ever since then, there's nothing but hysterical screaming if a 1"x1" piece of tulle comes within 10 feet of her.

I suppose it could be good or bad :-)

And now I want to put both BB and LB in tutus.

    Dang it.

  28. Good luck! On the upside she does look really cute in it.

  29. Oh, so so cute! I love the pic with her sleeping. She's just adorable!
You want her out of it? Take the tights off. Once Sophie felt the itchiness of the little things on her bare legs-she never wanted anything else to do with them.
    sigh.
She even took the toule off her Barbies.

  30. Why would you want to, she's so darn cute! Plus she seems to get a lot done in a day with that thing on! Ha!

  31. I WANT ONE!!!!! Hmm. Would it be terribly gauche to show up at my cousin's wedding wearing a tutu?

If you made me a tutu, I would totally wear it doing everything I do.

Except almost every picture would be of me watching TV or playing on the computer. Or cutting out coupons.

So probably not as great of a photo essay.

  33. Did you let her wear it to daycare, just to annoy the crap out of the teachers? Wait, I used to be a teacher! Never mind. I love the tutu, though. Great for pictures!

  34. Oh she is so adorable!!! That picture with the dogs, is awesome! You need to make them wear one too! Hahahaha that would be cute!
