Having the Three of My Life

THIS is it.

Right now.

This IS it.

Three. Three is the age that I would want to redo if I could. Three is the perfect age to be alive.

The most upsetting thing that can happen when you're three is to be told "no" when you want to boogie down to a little High School Musical.

When you're three, it's gloriously fun to yell, "Momma pooped!" each and every time you wander into a public restroom.

A peanut butter and jelly sandwich is a perfectly acceptable, and preferred, lunch for someone who is three.

When you're three, a kiss is just a kiss, and it's hysterical when you give the wettest, most sloppery kisses you can.

A productive evening for a three-year old is when you get to chase the dogs, play a game on your computer, AND dance around in your tutu.

If you're three, it's cute when you try to tell a fib, especially since you're not very good at it.

You can pick your nose when you're three, and convince all the world that it's funny if you get caught in the act.

Proving you can spell "stop," "dog," AND your own name is just cause for a party when you're three.

Three is a spectacularly fun age to be alive.

But since I can't go back and be three again, I'm going to chauffeur around someone who is, and I'm going to act like it's my job to make sure she gets to go to all of her favorite places. Because it IS my job to make sure she gets to go to all of her favorite places.

33 isn't all that bad either.

And to think, I thought two was as good as it could get.

  1. Hooray for Alexis!

This blog is always the last one I read on my blogroll each day because it always makes me smile. Hearing (or seeing, sort of) the antics of your three year old remind me that even with all the crap in the world, there is still a ton of beauty and happiness to be found. Thank you for letting your little girl be an encouragement to me by blogging about her life.

    :]

  2. I had (still have) four children, so got to experience three four times. It really is the most fantastic age.

  4. I'm loving two, so if three is better still, I'm just going to be a puddle of mush!

  5. I've heard so many bad things about 3. It is good to hear that 3 is so fab since mine will be 3 in a couple of weeks. I would so go back in time if I could. Who knew we had it so good?

  6. Three is awesome. I will look forward to Jonathan being three. I don't think he will dance in a tutu, or if he does his father might pass right out, but some of the other stuff (again, not High School musical. Oh dear! Hubby unconscious again!) oh yeah. He'll love it!

  7. I'm looking forward to three. And two. And then I remember what I dealt with yesterday involving climbing up my stairs & pulling up all in the same day. And maybe I kinda want him to stay small.

And I'm not that awesome. I just want to help in any way that I can.

  8. At exactly what point do the 3's stop acting like the 2's. I really am not to impressed so far. I am pretty sure that even though I love her So much my 3 yr old is driving me INSANE. Can't wait till till the dad comes back!

  9. I LOVE the three year olds. I think its the best when you as mommy get to play with playdoh, color, read fantastic kids stories, and sing kids songs, reliving the three year old phenomenon. It was one of my favorite ages. I think every age is pretty fantastic! Have a blast with your little one. So much fun to read your blogs every day.

  12. I don't remember anything from when I was three so I think it's SO cool that we get to "relive" it through our kids.

  14. Yea for three!!!! That sounds like so much fun.

(Just bookmark this post so that when she's in a development stage complete with tantrums you will remember how good it can be.)

  15. I think like this every year when kids get older. I often watch them and think "this is my favorite age for the boys to be" and then I remember I thought the same thing when they were 2 and 3....ok maybe not but I have often felt that each new stage was my favorite.

  16. Four isn't bad either.

  17. Aww, sweet!! I tell you, I wouldn't mind being three again, but I sure don't want to have another 3 year old. Mine weren't as fun ;-)

  18. Great post. I would love to have that life too. At my age all the inappropriate things I say and do are frowned upon. Damn society.

  21. Just wait until three TEEN. Woo - that's a fun age.

Wait, you weren't being sarcastic. My bad.

  22. I agree that three is some kind of sweet spot, but mostly because they're big enough to be relatively self-sufficient, but still small enough to be scared straight on a regular basis, without too much stubborn backtalk and rebellion.

I've got a 2-year-old and a 5-year-old, so I'm pretty much living with tiny teenagers.

  23. Three is the most awesomely fantastic age--I define that as:

Big enough to not need me 24/7, but small enough to want me 24/7. And, Mom isn't an embarrassment, yet.

Three was fantasic. (I wish that 7 and 20 could be that fantastic!) Although, for the record, 5 wasn't so bad, either.

  24. 3 is the best age! Actually, I saw that at every age my children are currently at, but yeah, 3 rocks! And it just keeps getting better!

My son picked his nose the other night. (eww) and he said: "Mommy, look, I found my brain!" and showed me. THANKS FOR THAT!

Three is good. But, it's also causing me to want to drink. Heavily. The Terrible Twos don't have JACK on the threes. Not even close!!

Morgan was picking her nose the other night. She pulled out an impressive booger, inspected it and then said "How did THAT get in my tiny nose holes?"

    :)

  26. You do 33 (and motherhood for that matter) proud . . .

And now, I won't look forward to 2 or 3 with fear and trepidation . . . I mean, it's all good, right?!? Great, really.
