Guess Who Got New Wheels

I caved. For months Mr. Husband has been pestering me for a new car. Over and over I've said we didn't need one. I tried using all kinds of things as an excuse: there's no money in the checking account, we would never agree on a model, we have nowhere to put it (You ought to see our garage. Wait, no, it's probably better that you don't. You might not make it out alive.). It was really just a matter of time. If I wanted to maintain even the slightest amount of sanity, I was going to have to just succumb to the never-ending pressure.

Everybody, meet Daddy's new car:

While he cannot actually drive it (trust me, he checked the weight limits and has confirmed that he cannot), Mr. Husband is quite enamored with his new wheels. Obviously, he is not the only one.

I will say this much, at least he picked out a decent model.

1. It's not a girlie pink Barbie Corvette. That might have been enough to make me puke.
2. The bright green color will be visible for miles, so I should be able to spot the Toddler as she drives off a cliff.
3. That shovel in the front? Is totally going to come in handy whenever the Toddler has the sudden desire to dig a hole. Probably in my garden. Watch out Delphiniums, she's armed and dangerous.
4. Seating for two. Useful because we all know it's fabulous that Bear can now go even more places than she does now. I love increasing the odds that the Toddler's most cherished toy will get dismembered, get destroyed, or disappear.
5. Ample trunk space for taking her two dozen naked baby dolls for a ride. If our neighbors didn't think we were freaks before, they will now when Alexis goes chugging down the street with Cabbage Patch butts hanging out of her car. If we're lucky, she'll have spare room for that inflatable potty chair.

Now I just need it to be Spring already. Otherwise, Mr. Husband is going to break down the living room walls driving his car around.

  1. It was 75 here today. We played hopscotch outside. That car will drive you nuts. I hid SD's (vile mother?) as my back hurt from the constant steering I was forced to do.

  2. OMG I so want to get one of those for Aidan!!!

  3. That is a sweet ride, and the shovel is so she can dig herself out of the ditch she will be getting stuck in. I have no idea how you have room to navigate that around your home.

  4. We don't, Jen. Therein lies the problem.

  5. You'd have to outfit that thing with snow tires to drive it up here! I love the acid green color.

  6. Got something for ya, stop on by!

  7. I'm going to start reading you LAST because everyone ELSE is so depressing tonight and you always crack me up.

My husband would be SO. JEALOUS. of that car!

  8. SO much cooler than a pink Barbie one!

  9. Those things are awesome! We've got a Jeep and let me tell you, the fun the kids have with that thing in summer makes me wish that they would up the weight limit.

And this reminds me that I've got a whole photo series I've been meaning to post about our Jeep's adventures.

  10. My husband says to tell your husband that a garden tractor battery does wonders for getting more power out of those little things. Just be careful, they'll pop wheelies on a fast start.

  11. That is the coolest present ever!

  12. WOW! Smokin' wheels! I love that color. Way better than any pepto barbie color. Good luck in the spring ;)

  13. Ooooh. A convertible. I am so jealous!

Ha! I love that there is a shovel holder on the hood. You never know when you need to bury something...ha ha ha!

  15. The color is awesome! She is obviously proud.

    ReplyDelete
  16. She's totally set! Does it have cupholders for her Starbucks? Cuz, ya know, it should.

  17. Ha! I have an esposo caprichoso like that too. Hope spring's around the corner!

My husband would be so jealous.

  20. Karen--THANK GOD my husband doesn't read comments. The last thing the Toddler needs is more power under the hood!

  21. The seating capacity just means that the bear isn't in her clutches, gathering germs and having his fur worn off. It's a good thing! That is so cute!

  22. Very cool.

My kids have a red Jeep, we got it second hand for free, just needed a new battery (which are 50 bucks!).

It has been well used over the years. A 2 seater is a definite must. If your daughter has friends over, or if you had other kids, it is so much easier to take turns driving rather than taking turns riding. Plus they really have so much more fun with the car when they are riding with someone.

It is supposed to be really warm today!? I'll bet someone will be getting it out in the mud!!!

  23. I love Daddy's new car! Does he ever get a chance to drive it? Your daughter looks so happy - love that smile!

  24. LOL! Sounds like my father-in-law. He bought Hope a ATV typ thingy when she was 18 months. She couldn't have cared less but man we're my hubby and fil impressed.

    Enjoy your car!!

  25. Could that kid look ANY happier? I love it!!

Darling hubby has been bugging me for the exact same thing! I agree that you got off lucky without the Barbie pink model, and I do like the shovel mounted on the front. I can't wait to hear the off-road tales warmer weather brings!

(And I'm with Karen on the battery . . . MORE POWER!)

The shovel on the front makes me think that you hung out at Newark airport a little too long...

Little Man has a 4-wheeler. 1.5 mph sounded fast to me, until I actually walked next to him and nearly died from boredom at walking at snail pace. Plus, my back is officially messed up from steering for him the whole time. But man does he ever love that thing and grin ear to ear the whole time.

Alexis' bear looks to be in about the same shape as Little Man's frog. And you probably don't know this, but Little Man has a strawberry on his upper back, convincing me that the two of them are destined to be together, because they're like twins separated at birth.

  28. That car is too awesome! I've never seen anything like it. Way cool.

Well, it's in the 60's here in the burgh but, Surprise surprise! It's RAINING! What a shocker, no?

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. I love it!! That is too cute!
I would love to get one for Princess, but I'm afraid she'd take off to Whataburger in it all on her own!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. That's AWESOME!

    Coolest parents ever!

    ReplyDelete
  31. That is awesome! She is so adorable in that car, especially with Bear right next to her. Too cute!

But didn't they have a Dora version of the jeep? Surely it would have been even better with DORA on it!!! And pink!!! :-P

    ReplyDelete
  32. Dora would have come home had I not intervened. I have put my foot down on all things Dora; we have contributed enough to the little Latinas college fund. Period.

  33. I just love little Alexis and her new wheels!! Those pictures, especially with her passenger bear, just adorable! (could she be any cuter?) From the smile on her face I'd say she definitely likes her birthday present, way to go mom and dad!

You do realize you are setting a precedent here though, don't you? She's gonna be expecting that sports car for her sweet 16, I'm just sayin'! :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. My hubby and kids are NOT ALLOWED to see those pics. NOT ALLOWED!

    ReplyDelete
  35. If I showed hubby your post, he'll be the color of that car with envy :-)
He's been pestering me about getting one for Monser too... but I am hoping we can avoid it for a bit!
Hope you all enjoy Alexis driving it around! :)

  36. cool ride...

but for the record, i HATED those things. mostly because i was the one chasing after the runaway toddler.

get daddy to do that (as penance). ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  37. That will not be a problem. You see, Daddy begs to have the car, Daddy gets to be the one who takes the Toddler out with the car. I very highly doubt he would have it any other way. My back? will not be aching.

  38. We got a Jeep (or Jeep wanna-be, what do I know?) free from a neighbor who was throwing it out...Gavin was barely walking at the time. At least once a week when we get home he points to it and asks to ride on it, and he's going on 4 now. Good investment.

    ReplyDelete
  39. SAAAWEEEET! That is awesome! Jon and Gracie and dare I say, Isaac would be green with envy!!

Isaac and his buddies drove our Hotwheels Jeep into the ground. It was grand fun and he even got some toddler smooches out of some of the girls he drove around.

Beware of neighbor boys who want to go parking!!

  40. cabbage patch butts- ha ha ha ha ha!

Love it! Ashlyn wants a jeep in the worst way- it is actually daddy who is saying no, not me. I would love to see her kicking hill butt in one of those. It just may show up one od these days!

    ReplyDelete
  41. That is totally cool! I want one . . . for me!

Kickin' wheels! Too bad for hubby, but at least he can live vicariously through the little one! And hey, he won't have to worry about gas prices, right?!?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Sweet wheels! That's just PERFECT.

We bought our son a rideable golf cart like that and can't wait to give it to him.

I love Alexis' bear riding with her - talk about about the money shot!

    ReplyDelete
  43. woohoo! hot wheels!!!

Glad your blog isn't affected by this 'outage', unfortunately mine is. Wonder whats going on :(

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm tagging you with a meme when you get a chance to do it. :o)

    ReplyDelete
  45. That thing is awesome! And "Cabbage Patch butts" made me laugh out loud.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Why do husbands enjoy the kids' toys more than they do? And I had to chuckle; one of our girls has the same pj's as your little girl. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Dear Mr. Husband,
If you sit on the "trunk" with one leg on each seat so you can reach the pedal and drive. shhhhhhhh.
    Sincerely,
Always driving BACK home from where the kids abandoned it

  48. HRH--SHHHHHHH! Don't tell!
