Earlier this evening, Alexis and I were cuddled together in a chair working our way through a big ol' stack of books. In the past month, she has successfully managed to memorize at least six of them in their entirety, which has freed me up to channel my inner man. She "reads" while I space out and periodically mutter a "yup" or "uh huh" and occasionally throw in a word that it's probably safe to assume is part of whichever book she is holding.
For some reason, I snapped out of my happy place just in time to listen to her give a moving rendition of our new favorite book, Knuffle Bunny. As Alexis recited, "She went boneless" I was suddenly struck by her chubby little cheeks, comfy little Minnie Mouse footed pajamas, and uber-long eyelashes. I smiled and said, "Alexis, you're so cute."
She stopped reading long enough to look me deep in the eye and say, "I stinkin' cute."
I stand corrected. She's stinkin' cute.
