Interrupting the Contest for Some Mommyblogging

There are SO many life-altering moments in parenting. Most of them are the stereotypical stuff of legends--first steps, first words, achieving greatness through potty training, going to that first day of school, getting a driver's license, etc. All of those things certainly do change your lives, but sometimes it's the little moments that really make a difference.

I watched one of those life-altering moments tonight. Sure, it's not quite on the same level as a first step, but I can guarantee the next few months have been changed in monumental ways. The deep belly laughs, the gasps, and the declarations of joy all tell a story. It is the story of a new found obsession.

I should have seen it coming.

First, there was the costume.

Then the little plastic figurines.

And now the movie.

Mr. Husband somehow managed to find a copy of Snow White on DVD. Alexis. loves. that. movie. She hid her eyes behind her fingers while the spooky eyes scared Snow White. She let out a deep belly-laugh when the spider slid down to the chipmunk. She cried desperately when we told her she had to turn it off and go to bed. Our lives will never be the same again. I predict hours and hours of Toddler obsession is about to take over.

I can only hope this means Dora will soon officially be the Washed Up Whore she deserves to be. Cause if it does? LONG LIVE SNOW WHITE AND HER SEVEN TINY MEN!

Oh, and what does it mean that Alexis INSISTS that Dopey's name is "Alexis?" That can't be good.

  1. I love that movie! It's a toss up between Snow White and Cinderella as to which is my favorite Disney flick.

Step 1 - Be thankful Dora days may be over.

Step 2 - The Dopey thing is cute. Allow her to relate. Besides, look at it from her perspective, his "mom" dresses him funny too. ;-)

Wonders (and yes, I'm using Plurk-speak again) if the Disney Princess thing is just as bad as the Latina Whore.

So many more products as it's a $3-4 billion market for the big rodent (thank you MBA classes) and it's just going to get worse.

  3. @jenn--I agree, but yet am secretly proud she's singling out the Dark-Haired Not Really a Princess princess. And? I freakin' hate that stupid Latina Whore.

  4. *snort* Dopey's name is Alexis? Well ... at least Dopey is benign, right? Unlike Grumpy who is just a biotch. I think I have a special connection with Grumpy.

  5. Yay for Snow White!!!

Alexis looks SO GROWN UP in that pic!

@burghbaby Oh yes, SW is MUCH more wholesome. Ah, see that's what's wrong with today's youth. They don't understand what quality programming is and whatnot. It's all about the cheap buck and mindless dribble.

I'll stop 'cause I sound like I'm 25 going on 80. *hides the cane*

  7. Oh, I love that movie! Alexis is learning good taste!! ;-)

Here's hoping you don't have to suffer through too many more "I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map...etc."

Yay for SW and her beasty wee men!

  13. My son was obsessed with Spiderman for so long...like four years!! At one point in time, we watched the movie 3 times a day, every single day. I hated it but my son was so hyper and wild that that was my piece of heaven when he sat to watch the movie! I actually got things done around the house!!

Dopey's name is Alexis, that is too cute!

  15. Off-topic!

I just have to tell you that there is a story on the Today Show - right now - about women who collect those "life-like" dolls and treat them just like real babies (strollers, high chairs, car seats, etc.). I know how fascinated you are with those dolls ;-) Could you be heading in this general direction?

And why aren't they filing this under MENTAL ILLNESS?

    LOL - D

  16. That's a great shot of the toddler. And I have a pattern for Snow White's dress for little girls AND mommies. Just sayin'.

  17. did you see the TODAY show this am, it had those real life baby dolls on and there is some documentary in britain about women who pretend the babies are their babies.....

  18. WHY did I miss the Today show thing this morning? I am so disappointed in myself!

    Off to scour YouTube . . .

  19. Long live the whore of the Princess world, living with her 7 men, and marrying yet another!

  20. Haha! That is certainly a *way* better obsession than Dora. At least in my opinion it would be. I can deal with cheesy disney movies, it's the irritating new cartoons that drive me nuts.

I love that Dopey is "Alexis"--better than Grumpy, maybe?

  21. This must be a simultaneous transition, my daughter is slowly going into princess mode from Dora. I said this in my other comment, but for those you might only read it here amazon can be a place to find those stinkin' in the vault dvds they may be used, but if they play who cares.

It's better than Dora. Right, Dopey? LOL

  23. Ahhh, toddler obsessions. They come and go so brilliantly fast. But when they're in the midst, they are REALLY into it!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I can't be certain, but I think I saw an ad for a new version of Snow White that's super-widescreen (apparently the way Walt Disney wanted it or something like that).

    ReplyDelete
  25. We have Snow White too (The original on VHS - yes, we still have VHS tapes!!) and my 6 year old SON is the one who loves Snow White. He can't get enough of it!

Your comments on Dora crack my shit up. I concur completely.

  26. Saoirse's first princess obsession as Cinderella, just before she turned 2. She'll be 4 in November and the Princess obessseion has yet to end.

In fact, she's being Snow White for Halloween. All because my friend bought her a pair of Snow White slippers from the Disney Store. Curses! I had an elephant costume from last year that she never wore when she decided she ABSOLUTELY HAD TO BE Ariel that I had convinced her to wear this year.

  27. "Someday my prince will come"...

Ahhh. Snow White. Something about many of the Disney movies makes me a sentimental sap! (i love that photo!)

  28. I can't wait to see pictures in the Cinderella princess dress.

My boys were not always so agreeable with that. :)

    Long live Snow White!!!

  33. Oh, I can't wait for my kiddo to shake the Dora AND Diego habit.

    Crossing my fingers for you.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Snow White is definitely better than Dora! And, of course, the best part, (by my estimation) is that she chose a dark haired princess!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ha Ha Ha :-) Love it.
And Sleeping Beauty comes out next week, wait until that obsession hits.

    Oy.
or the Jonas Brothers and Camp Rock.
    *eye roll*

Hopefully DWhora is a thing of the past.

  36. I hate to burst your bubble, but you ain't done with the Latina Whore. No how, no way.

The Howler is 6 and so over Dora...yet, she still says, "I want that" whenever there's a Dora anything new on the shelves. It's hypnotism or something in the water, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  37. oh, I was wrong. It's Sleeping Beauty that's the ultra-widescreen

    ReplyDelete
  38. I know you won't believe me but trust me, ENJOY THIS. When she hits tween, it's all High School Musical and trust me you will wish it was Snow White she wanted to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  39. ah, the disney princess days are upon us.

pretty soon, you'll be singing "under the sea" and "whistle while you work" and "someday my prince will come."

    bwahahahahahahahahahaa
