Boom!

If you are wandering around the house in the middle of the night, you deserve to run into a wall or two. That's my theory and I fully support it, despite the fact that I have rammed my noggin into a wall just about every night for the past three weeks. (I SWEAR that hallway keeps moving. There is no other explanation.) Night lights? Pshaw. A good door to the face collision will have you seeing enough stars to light up the darkest night.

We don't need no stinkin' night lights.

And yet, somehow, I had a moment of weakness right after we moved to this house. In a moment of crazy, I decided to let the kid keep a light on while she was trying to fall asleep. About a week later, I was fed up with wasting enough electricity to light up Manhattan and took away the privilege.

Mr. Husband did not.

Actually, he could not.

There are many ways that Alexis manipulates her dear daddy, and that is one of them. She can absolutely fall asleep without any lights on (she's been doing it her entire life), but she will. not. do. it for him. At all.

Which just makes this whole thing even more insane:

The tent. She was supposed to get the tent for Christmas last year, but then we didn't feel like setting up her twin bed. Lazy who? Oh yeah, lazy us.

The sleep mask. The sleep mask was one of the accessories that came with the tent. I can tell you that the tent makes it pretty dark, but that mask? Makes it a total blackout.

But OF COURSE she still wants the light on. It's the only way for her to know that her tent and mask are actually working.

Or something.

I bet she still sees stars when she smacks into a wall.

  2. I wish I had a tent like that when I was a kid.

  3. Just a warning, it will change. Diva could sleep in the dark till about 3 years ago, now she has her closet light, hall light and entry way light on to go to sleep. If she wakes up in the middle of the night and I've turned them off, she'll turn them all back on again! Argh! Drives me absolutely insane.

  4. Haha! Such a princess! I love that she sleep with a mask on. I can't even get my boys to keep a band aid on for longer than 5 minutes. ;)

  5. That sleep mask is AWESOME. I have a lame black one that I stole from a hotel in NY. I don't look that cool when I wear mine though. At least I don't think I do.

  6. All I can think is that it must be a bitch to make the bed with that thing on there :-)

  7. I love, as well, that she sleeps in a mask. What a sweet little princess. See, she NEEDS that gap dress...

  8. @Jayna--"Make the bed?" What is this foreign language you speak? Whatever it is, I'm pretty sure we don't do that around these parts.

@Misty--Mr. Husband said the exact. same. thing. He says he's going to go buy it. Harumph.

  10. Oh. My. Gawd! Your bebe wears a princess sleep mask! If that's not the most preshuss thing I've ever seen, I don't know what is!?!

  11. LMAO! How fun!! My girls would love a tent, but I doubt they'll get one *giggle* But the sleep mask? Oh, that's just too much! I love it!!

  12. Oh I always wanted one of those tents. Can I come sleep? I'll turn the light off.

  13. @Sarah and @Firemom--That tent was crazy cheap. I think $12? It was an after Thanksgiving blowout thing at KMart. I actually bought it because I figured it was a decent alternative to expensive rails for when we moved her to a bigger bed.

  14. How fun is that, love the matching mask. Although I'd be quick to swipe it, I prefer complete darkness myself!

  15. My youngest started sleeping with the light on at about that age. He leaves the light on on the fish tank. Drives my Hunny NUTS. :)

  16. My six year old sleeps with a mask and a night light, too. She told me that when she wakes up in the middle of the night, she wants to take her mask off and be able to SEE that there are no monsters.

    Um, OK.

  17. I have never used the sleep mask, but maybe that is because I always have a few beers before bedtime.

I also wanted you to know that although I may not comment often your blog has been one of my absolute favorites since I began blogging. Thanks for sharing.

  18. Sometimes it scares me that we are raising the same child. If they met would be like worlds colliding? Kinda when the two Georges met on Seinfeld? I watch way to much TV:P

  19. You know you have a little princess on your hands there, right? tee hee... Love the mask - too cute!!

  20. That is so sweet! She looks like a real princess with the sleep mask on! Maybe a special night light or a bedside lamp would help instead of keeping the regular light on?

  21. I really don't think she could be much cuter. The tent rocks, as does the sleep mask and sadly, I completely understand her logic ;-)

  22. That is seriously funny. The kid cracks me up. Jonathan doesn't like anything on his face, so that would never fly with him. Not too mention the Princess thing would upset his daddy just a bit. :-)

I swear she is a 30-year-old woman trapped in a 3-year-old body! The sleep mask? ADORABLE!

And the Daddy-manipulation . . . oh boy can I empathize! My kids pull crap with my husband that they wouldn't dream of pulling with me - drives me INSANE!

  24. OF COURSE she needs the light on to make sure the tent and mask are working. Duh, Mom, that's how you tell that the darkening stuff works: turn on a light and you're still in the dark.

Smart, and beautiful. No wonder she's got tons of boyfriends. :p

  26. @Nicki--Ha! You're kinda funny! She is in love with her rainbow floor lamp and her sun ceiling light, so she thinks they need to be on at all times.
