I Am in Soooo Much Trouble with This Kid

The cousins danced around wide-eyed as they perused the long row of rainbow-colored candy-filled machines along one wall of the mall. Alexis stood patiently beside me as she had been quick to make her sour-tasting selection. I glanced down at her and suddenly realized that in a matter of seconds, she had aged ten years.

She stood with her legs crossed awkwardly, her hands folded carefully in front of her waist, and her head tilted to one side, but it was her eyes that told the story. They were filled with teenage emotion. I followed her googly green eyes to find the focus of their affection.

There he stood, all five foot six inches of him. He wore a long black overcoat, a bright blue scarf, and black pants. His young face was surrounded by dark curls. This guy has a doppelganger floating around downtown Indianapolis:

As Alexis stood crushing on the Jonas look-alike, my eyes wandered back and forth, as if watching a tennis match. I witnessed the exact moment that he caught her gaze. He gazed back, clearly realizing that the littlest thirteen-year old was staring at him. He continued to return her gaze and then cracked a small smile.

Alexis grinned back the biggest grin I've ever seen as she batted her eyelashes.

They continued to look at each other, he with an amused and befuddled look and her with the look of a teenager in love. Suddenly, as he realized that I was watching the little display, he glanced at me, and blushed a vivid shade of red.

He totally knew Little Miss Three Going on Thirteen was crushing on him.

I grabbed Alexis' hand and pulled her gently away from her first love. Glancing over my shoulder as we walked away, I smiled back at the Jonas look-alike as he smiled back at me.

He might want to get a restraining order. Just in case.

Aw!! Good choice, Alexis. He's cute. When you're older, of course.

  3. Oh man, it is starting so early!! Just a thought... Is her bedroom on a top floor? Is there a tree close to the window of that bedroom? You might want to check into that now.

  4. I'd laugh but... I have one too. *sigh*

Should we invest in some shotguns now so we can practice? ;)

  5. I think Mr. Husband is the one who's going to needing those restraining orders once that little darlin' really does turn 13. :)

  6. @Jen--Her room is essentially three stories off the ground and no trees below it. It'll be staying that way. ;-)

  14. Oh, that is HILARIOUS! And I love the Juliet-esque quality of the pic, showing her pining after her lost love. :)

  15. Uh-oh! It's starting already!

Yeah, makes me nervous when Jonathan flirts with the skinny little blond teenagers waiting on us at the stores too!

So, Krista...no...sometimes it is just as bad with boys!

  17. My daughter is the same. She's 4 and attacks all of her older brothers' friends. ATTACKS them. And KISSES THEM. And I shriek and swat at her and shake my finger and secretly know that I am raising a younger version of myself. And I cringe...

Did she have the same look that I had starring at Roxy Boy? If so, she seriously might end up like me. LOL....you better brace yourself.
