Not P-P-P-P-Poker Face

There is no denying that Alexis has heard too much Lady Gaga lately. We're currently in a It's OK to Listen to the Radio but Only if it's Pop Music phase, which means we basically listen to Radio Gaga. I think she's the only one with any songs out. I guess you could count that Owl City song, but I don't because I swear every time a radio station plays Fireflies, somewhere an angel stabs a kitten.

Anyway, lots of Gaga in the car. I'm pretty much OK with it because there are many worse things out there. I mean, I could get all wound up about the whole Disco Stick thing, but I think I was the last person on Earth to realize what Summer of 69 was about and I probably heard that song about 1521346436 times growing up. If I'm not the last person to figure it out, you're welcome. Now you know. Yes, it's about THAT. And yet our parents let us sing it when we were kids . . .

So. Gaga. A lot.

But apparently not enough to actually get the lyrics right.

I confirmed with the kid. She says the song is called, "Butter face" or "But her face." Either way, there is something SO very appropriate about that.

  1. OK. So you're off the hook because I am now the last person to get it. ROFL! And I was an adult when that song was popular.

She is getting so big, Michelle. And beautiful, too. Just like her mommy.

  3. Ummmm...just asked me husband. He didn't know either. And he's 36. HE'S the last to know!

  4. @Jessica--I KNOW! The last line of the song is a dead giveaway, but I never caught it until someone told me about it.

  5. Count me in as one of those who didn't know. Until now. Thank you. My childhood is ruined.

Tell her the radio is broken and play what you want. Alexis is 3; she doesn't need Britney & co. telling her how to be a skank just yet.

  7. I totally didn't even know! I have to go take an informal poll now, lol.

  8. @Anonymous--What I want is way, way, way, way less appropriate. She's better off with pop music and I'm better off with Miley Cyrus.

  9. Btw.. it is "disco stick" not pogo stick. :)

  10. butter face is freaking hilarious. I also never ever caught the last line in the summer of 69 song. I thought he said "in 69" not "in a 69" so your totally not the last person to know

  11. Love the video but you are soooo way wrong on the song. He may sing it odd in that last verse but there is NO WAY that song is about anything other than the year. There isn't a single sexual innuendo in the entire song. I know this is going to the way of the whole peanut butter jelly sandwich debate but I can't help it... you're crazy.

  12. I'm in the long line who thought it was just about a year.

  13. Oh this is funny! My 5 year old thought "All the Single Ladies" was "All the Cigarettes" So embarrassing when we dont even smoke and here she is bursting into song and dance at the store and other parents are giving you wonk eye.

  14. Off to google the lyrics to summer of 69. I know the song but I don't recall the last line!
I spent a lot of time singing Semi-Charmed life as a kid. Google those lyrics. Yeah.

and my little sister used to sing "Flavor of The Week" by American Hi-Fi. The line "she's too stoned" came out as "she's too stow" thankfully.

  15. I'm so jealous of your tree - it looks so much like mine used too.

Now, we have free-standing fake prelit tree, due to Satan Baby and his Minion Hands of Destruction.

I kind of think Butter Face works better, although Lady Gaga, when not all crazied out isn't bad looking.

  16. @James--Follow the link for Summer of 69. Bryan himself explains what it's about.

    @Geenalyn--D'oh! Thank you!

  17. OMG. I'm rolling.

And thank you. Because for a brief instant a few weeks ago I felt like a bad mom because LB (yes, the younger one) was in the back seat going p-p-p-oker face and I LAUGHED and told him to sing p-p-p-arker face and NOW HE DOES. ALL DAY LONG.

    *snort*

    We win.

Also, I will show this to the husband when he gets home tonight and he will snort as well.

  18. um, wow. You weren't the last one to figure it out. Mostly because I never get lyrics right (I am the only person who in the 80s sang "Poisoned Summer" or "Gotta Buy Me a Brand New Oven").
I did know about "She Bop."
My kid like They Might Be Giants & Squirrel Nut Zippers. I'm waiting for a conference about him singing about Santa Claus smoking reefer.

  19. That is the. cutest. thing. :)

One of Gracie's favorite songs is Cecilia by Simon & Garfunkel - the only suggestive song they ever wrote. Sigh. But Gracie totally makes up for it by singing, "Oh Cecilia, you're breaking my heart, she's shaking my coffee daily." Bad coffee breaks my heart, too.

And why do they always go with food?

  20. Oh what a difference a one letter word makes. Never caught that all the times I belted that song out in my youth.

  21. An angel stabs a kitten.. Ha ha that's a good one. Never heard the summer song, so I still don't get it

  22. I forbade the radio when I caught BENNY walking around singing, "and baby when it's love, if it's not rough, it isn't fun."

Yup, turned that crap right off.

Me, however, I enjoy a little Gaga so long as I don't have to look at her!

  23. LOVE your tree.

Here I am, 42 years old, never having caught the meaning to that song. Ick.

OK... I've seen Bryan Adams in concert four times (including summer '08 when I was 6 or 7 months pregnant, yes I'm a nerd) and I always thought that last line was 'me and my baby in '69.' And that he meant the year.

I'm Canadian. I'm probably going to have my citizenship taken away from me now for not knowing. I am so, so very ashamed right now.
